Dr. Peter Munyao Kithuka has taught health systems management at Kenyatta University since 2011. BGHUB Kenya exists because of what his students told him, year after year, about the gap between what they were studying and what they could actually practise.

It started with something students kept saying to their lecturer.
Dr. Peter Kithuka has taught health systems management at Kenyatta University since 2011, and supervises students year after year. In conversation they kept describing the same thing: the long university holidays came round, and nothing in them connected to the course they were studying. No placement, no practice, no soft skills, nothing to put next to the theory.
Graduation was the same problem, later. Degrees in hand, and no work in the field the degree was for. Capable people going to waste.
He began offering mentorship and internships built around one thing: doing the actual work, supervised, at whatever level a person is ready for. A student who has read about care coordination coordinates care in a hospital. A student who has sat through research methods collects and analyses real data.
That is the whole design. Not lectures about practice — practice, with someone experienced watching and correcting.
The hub is led by people who teach, research and manage health systems for a living — lecturers, doctoral researchers, former county health executives and hospital administrators — alongside county mentorship directors and hub managers, several of whom came through the programmes themselves.
BGHUB Kenya is a division of Bob Grogan Consulting Ltd, a NITA-registered training provider.
