“Joining BGHUB whether as a mentor or mentee will propel you towards your career aspirations.”

I was working as a unit coordinator at a leading healthcare institution. My career has since progressed and I am now a medical staff coordinator. Mentoring care coordinators made me more knowledgeable in my own field, health services management, and the interaction with my mentees pushed me to learn more and grow.

My income is considerably higher than before.

What I would like improved: more marketing of BGHUB.

“The full cost was about 12k, which I would never have afforded. They agreed that a 2k deposit was enough to start, and we paid off the rest.”

I had just graduated and I was at home helping my parents sell in the market when a coursemate told me about the care coordination programme. I am now a client relations officer, posted to the Nairobi County Cancer Centre, an annex of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital — the first facility my group was attached to for training.

My income is somewhat higher than before.

What I would like improved: the teaching methods, so that whatever is taught is understood well enough to be passed on to someone else.

“Come ready to learn and BGHUB will give you real time experience, not just theory. Be open to feedback, ask questions and take your tasks seriously.”

I was a health services management student. I had the theory of healthcare management but no hands-on exposure. I am now on a mentorship covering care coordination and research assistance, and I am building practical experience in service delivery, hospital operations and research.

What I would like improved: clearer guidance on the expected practical outcomes for each rotation.

“I have gained a lot of skills and competence, and direction in my career.”

I am in my final year of a health service management degree at Kenyatta University, and I am now studying at both the university and BGHUB Kenya. I came looking for something useful to do alongside my course, and I was recommended to the hub.

What I would like improved: attached mentorship, and continuous learning and training for tailored internship programmes.

“More skills and knowledge are acquired there, as the hub offers multiple courses in different job areas.”

I was a student at Machakos University when the company director announced an intake at an event. I have since been promoted to brand manager, and I have skills that cut across several industries.

My income is considerably higher than before.

What I would like improved: reduce the probation duration.

I was a sales agent for credit companies and a customer accounts manager. I am now technical support for BGHUB Kenya and a software developer. I have coding and administrative skills, and research and data collection experience from several projects.

My income is considerably higher than before.

What I would like improved: bring in more programmes for career enhancement.

If you came through a cohort, mentored someone, or worked with a BG brand, we would like to hear how it went — including the parts that were hard.

Alumni and mentees

Tell us where you are now and what changed. We will ask before publishing anything with your name on it.

Mentors and researchers

What you have learned mentoring or running fieldwork helps the next intake more than any brochure.

Organisations

If a BG brand delivered for you — or did not — a candid account is more useful to us than a polite one.
