Dr. Peter Kithuka

Dr. Peter Munyao Kithuka founded BGHUB Kenya out of what his own students kept telling him. He holds a PhD in Health Systems Management from Kenyatta University, an MSc in Health Systems Management from Kenya Methodist University, a BA in Business and Economics, and a Diploma in Health Systems Management from Galilee College in Israel.

He has lectured at Kenyatta University since 2011 and chairs a department in the School of Health Sciences. Before academia he spent fifteen years running hospitals — Garissa Provincial General, Mbagathi, Thika District, Mathari and Coast Provincial General — and served as District Health Administrator for Kwale and Programme Administrator for the Kenya Expanded Programme on Immunization.

As a consultant he has led strategy and policy work for the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, KEMRI, KETRACO, and the health departments of West Pokot and Nyamira counties, alongside assignments for AMREF, USAID and the Eastern Africa College of Ophthalmologists. He publishes on health systems, supervises postgraduate research, and is an elder at CITAM Machakos.

Dr. Beatrice Amy Nesidai Kithuka holds a PhD in Population Health from Kenyatta University, an MSc in Epidemiology and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences, both from JKUAT.

She lectures in the Department of Community Health and Development at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, where she leads the MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and has taught part-time at Kenyatta University since 2014 across public health, nursing, medical laboratory sciences and medicine. She is an external thesis examiner for Mount Kenya University.

She has supervised over one hundred undergraduates to completion and currently supervises five postgraduate students. Her published work covers treatment compliance in non-communicable diseases, mobile health in low and middle income countries, task-shifting for rural specialist shortages, and health research capacity in Kenya. She holds a doctorate research grant and an international research grant at CUEA.

Dr. Gilbert Rithaa

Dr. Gilbert Rithaa is a public health researcher and scholar with over thirteen years of experience in policy research, monitoring and evaluation, strategy and capacity strengthening. He holds a PhD in Public Health.

His work spans research, programme evaluation and evidence generation, and he has mentored students and professionals across Kenya and the East and Horn of Africa. He is drawn to helping emerging professionals strengthen their skills, turn ideas into practical solutions, and make evidence-informed decisions.

Hon. Gifton Mkaya
Hon. Gifton Mkaya Mentorship Director, Taita Taveta County

Gifton Mkaya is a senior health executive, academic and policy expert with over two decades in strategic leadership, health systems strengthening and public service. He is a doctoral candidate in Public Health Management at Kenyatta University, researching health workforce accountability.

As County Executive Committee Member for Health Services in Taita Taveta County he provided strategic direction and governance oversight, leading the development of county health policies, budgets and strategic plans, with contributions to health infrastructure and resource mobilisation. Earlier, as a Manager at the Export Processing Zones Authority, he worked in project management, investor relations and regional economic development.

He has lectured part-time at Kenyatta University, Pwani University and Taita Taveta University in health policy, strategic management and organisational behaviour, supervising undergraduate research and developing curricula and practicum manuals. He holds postgraduate diplomas in health systems management from Israel, belongs to the Kenya Association of Health Administrators and the Health Systems Management Association, and is a recipient of the Head of State Commendation.

J. B. Odhiambo
J. B. Odhiambo Hub Manager, Machakos County

John came to the hub in 2024 while a student at Machakos University, starting in research and data collection. He has since been promoted to brand manager and now runs the Machakos hub.

Isaac Mutua holds a BSc in Information Technology from Meru University of Science and Technology and is studying for an MSc in Data Science at the Open University of Kenya.

He joined Bob Grogan Consulting as ICT Project Officer in March 2025 and runs the systems the hub depends on — the enterprise PBX and SIP telephony behind the call centre, the web platforms, and the data workflows joining KoboToolbox, SPSS and Power BI for the research teams. Before the hub he delivered ICT support across departments at Makueni County Government.

He is a co-author on a published systematic review of health system factors affecting mobile phone platforms for treatment compliance in low and middle income countries.
